POCANOS RETREAT, Buck HIll Falls,PA

The owners purchased this to be a year-round getaway from New York City. The existing home was built in the mid-90’s and they were looking to completely renovate it to their modern aesthetic. The entire ground floor plan was re-imagined, removing 2 load bearing walls that defined a central kitchen from which the dining and two living spaces orbited. Removing these walls allowed for an open kitchen/living/dining space with expansive views to their wooded 2 acre site, which was enhanced by the addition of large multi-slide doors and further opening up the existing 3-season sun-room. This new open plan now has spaces delineated, not by walls, but spacial heirarchy, with double height vaulted ceilings defining the entry, family and living rooms, while the kitchen and dining rooms have flat ceilings with bedrooms above. The entry received a new glass entry door and sidelights with a new custom curved white oak stair railing. The dining area becomes the new fulcrum of the ground floor, highlighted by a walnut dining table we custom designed below a hand blown glass bubble chandelier by Alan Mizrahi. The sleek kitchen is a combination of rift white oak with painted upper cabinents. The new powder room features a dramatic sink and full backsplash of explosion blue granite. The primary suite features a custom artisan plaster wall with gold and bronze leaf with the spa-like bathroom featuring a large walk-in shower and custom walnut vanity. The exterior of the house was also completely redone, with new cedar shake siding, windows and doors, including a new roofline that added an addtional bedroom and office to the second floor that was originally attic space. The outdoor area includes a new deck, custom designed grill enclosure and outdoor fireplace.
